Process: a systematic series of actions directed to some end

Increase Traffic

On-line marketing consists of bringing new people to your website who are searching for solutions to their problems but don’t know about you. There are a number of techniques that may be used to accomplish this.

  • Make your website visible on search engines via search engine optimization search engine marketing (PPC).
  • Work with industry-focused portals via whitepaper offerings, advertising, webinars.
  • Use an email campaign to encourage people to visit your website.
  • Use social media such as Twitter and Facebook to communicate with prospects.
  • Increase your inbound backlinks (IBLs) to improve PageRank.

SEO & SEM

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) - It all begins with something we call the Keyword Exercise which contains keywords, descriptions and titles which pertain to your website. We use the information in the Keyword document to structure each webpage so that it is found, read, and indexed by search engines in the most effective manner possible, making your web site and its content attractive, relevant and visible to search engines and web searchers.

Search Engine Marketing (SEM) - How do people find your website if they have never heard of you? The online answer is: via the search engines. Examples are: Google, Yahoo and Bing. (It is also important to remember not to neglect traditional non-internet marketing techniques. Examples are: advertising, speaking engagements, direct mailings, tradeshows, etc.)

Every client says: “make me #1 for for all my search terms on all the search engines.” An admirable goal that it almost impossible to achieve without unlimited money. But, getting on page one for some terms by spending a reasonable amount is possible. We work with our clients on the best SEM plan to fit their marketing budget. The SEM plan consists of targeted online marketing campaigns which we, in many cases, monitor daily.

Popular Search Engines

And what are the most popular search engines?

Search Engine Hours

The chart above shows the share of searches received by particular search engines.:

Well, the chart was true in July 2008. But who knows what it will look next month.

Topic-Focused Portals

A portal is a website that is focused on a niche topic. Portals deliver an audience that is very interested in what you have to offer. Some examples:

  • eSchoolMall - “is the leading provider of online procurement software and services for K-12 Schools.”
  • eWeek - “is the source for all high-tech news on a continual basis throughout the day—every day.”

How can you use a portal? You can:

  • Purchase a presence. Perhaps a listing in a directory.
  • Purchase banner ads. The cost is somewhat higher than average, but the audience is guaranteed to be one that is valuable to you.
  • Submit articles for publication. All trade rags are always looking for articles.
  • Contribute to webinars. Online seminars (or webinars) are becoming popular for people who want education but don't want to travel. Typically, companies pay to participate in webinars, but not always.

Email Campaign

What if you don't have a large list of email addresses? You can jump start your effort with an email campaign using a rented list. Your first determine what you can offer that would be valuable to your prospects. It could be a whitepaper or a webinar. The goal is to collect names.

  • You rent the list--the best performing lists provide you with the ability to segment by demographics, etc to find the right people for your product/service. The rental company sends out your email.
  • Recipients sign up for your offering and you now own additional names.

Social Media

In its simplest form, Twitter is a micro-blogging forum that allows you to connect with people directly on their cell phones or computers on their terms. The nicest thing about being able to connect with people through Twitter is that followers don't have to give you any private information about themselves. Rather, Twitter allows friends and fans an easy way to follow your tweets because they want to get your updates, alerts, tips, and general messages.

What’s the benefit of setting up a Facebook Page? The great thing about Facebook Pages is that every time someone becomes a fan of your page all of their friends see that they have become a “fan.” This often attracts other followers as well as creates a buzz regarding your business and of course your Facebook Page.

Inbound Links

It is known that Google ranks pages higher that have higher numbers of other websites pointing to them. The problem is that people are abusing the system and so Google is reducing the weight given to links. Another problem is that B2B sites will never have “thousands of pages linked to them”. You can, however, do one thing that will increase links into your website: publish more press releases.
